Bead Embroidered jewelry
is an artform that has been around for centuries and more. It involves using primarily seed beads and semi-precious gemstones to create one of a kind pieces of handcrafted beaded jewelry. From Native American culture, many of the Native people designed headdresses and elegant garments using the technique of bead embroidery. It was part of their culture and I’m pleased to help carry that skill into todays world.
Today bead embroidered jewelry is reknowned around the globe. Different cultures express their style with unique combination of stitches and stones. Beautiful collar necklaces are born. Embroidered cuff bracelets make vivid color statements and people are having pieces custom designed that they can’t find anywhere else.
Because bead embroidered jewelry is so detailed, it takes a significant amount of time to design and finish each piece. However, for the artisan, there is so much joy in listening to the beads and designing a special piece that showers the recipient in happiness. Their color preferance, their overall look of the piece – dramatic, playful, colorful, etc – and their dream becomes reality at the tip of your needle and thread.
Yes, all the beads are sewn on by hand, 1, 2 or 3 at a time to create a dramatic focal point of the piece and then all the ansillary details and embellishments. When it’s all done, the handcrafted beaded jewelry is an eye pleasing accessory that you’ll cherish forever.
If you like really unique jewelry, I’d like to introduce you to Bead Embroidery. Using tiny seed beads and a mix of gemstones and glass focal beads, I blend the colors and give each piece of handcrafted beaded jewelry it’s own voice. Sometimes it’s one particular stone that speaks to me, sometimes it the palette of beads on my table. Either way, I bring the piece to life so you can be certain it’ll please your eye and get you tons of compliments!
Take a peek at some of my Bead Embroidery Jewelry. If you find yourself curious or are interested in having a piece of unique jewelry designed especially for you, please send me a message. I’m happy to work with you to achieve the look and feel you want it a piece of custom jewelry.
Thanks so much for browsing this very special style of handcrafted beaded jewelry.
Working with seed beads creating handcrafted beaded jewelry has a rich history. While I’ve created a whole host of different styles of jewelry, I’ve just recently discovered my love for seed beads. Seed beads give handmade beaded necklaces and earrings so many options for colors, styles and textures! From metallic to matte, the finishes are endless and can literally be an open palette for artisans.
Over the last year, I’ve seen numerous pieces of handcrafted beaded jewelry that made me drool. Not only did the pieces feature beautiful mixes of seed beads, but they blended pearls, gemstones and crystals to create truly one of a kind designs that nobody can duplicate. The handmade beaded bracelets reminded me of how a painter starts with a blank canvas and several hours and a palette of color later reveals a masterpiece that takes people’s breath away.
After doing some research, I learned that the particular style of beaded jewelry I had been admired was created using a technique called bead embroidery.
My search for knowledge started with a video on Youtube, but quickly led me to looking for books on Amazon. There were a few available but one jumped at me when I was able to look inside. The way that the authors (yes there are two) instructed in different techniques and stitches, but also the pieces they
share for inspiration and to help teach the technique just spoke to me. When the package arrived, I dug in immediately and confirmed my original thoughts! The Art of Bead Embroidery is exactly what I needed to help me get started creating one of a kind pieces of art jewelry.
With an eye for color, some creativity and an inspirational spark designing custom beaded jewelry with bead embroidery is so fulfilling! It really allows me to bring the personality of the customer into a one of a kind piece that will really cause people to say “WOW!”
Seed beads are a great bead to use in creating custom made jewelry. Why? Because they allow you to have a tremendous amount of detail, flexibility and color while blending together an amazing color pallet.
Take for example this necklace. My inspiration was the lampwork glass beads that were designed by Juli Cannon of Juls Beads. What popped out at me was two-fold. First, I liked the swirl ribbing that encapsulates the beads. It gives the beads a frozen in time look. Secondly, the swirl of color within the bead just called my name. The blues and purples play so well together that it was natural to choose seed beads to bring the colors out.
In this design I used the set of lampwork glass beads as 5 mini-focals, and created the seed bead spirals leading up to each focal. I embellished with silver beads that also appear to swirl… keeping with the theme.
Seed beads are a light weight choice of materials that will add a large pop of texture and color. So whether you are looking for handmade beaded necklaces for your bridal party, sisters or granddaughters something can be designed to fit the look you’d like no matter what the color scheme!
With the holidays approaching I wanted to design a specialty item that would make a perfect gift and be completely customizable. I have created these beaded ornaments that are not only perfect for the Christmas tree, but also make great heirloom gifts.
Beaded ornaments are very detailed and come in a variety of styles. The first is a netted ornament where a glass ball ornament is encased in a beautiful beaded netting. It can be designed in nearly any color combination and is perfect if you’re looking to give a gift to a teacher, coach or even your parents or grandparents.
The other style of ornaments I have created are Victorian Ornaments. The Victorian beaded ornaments offer elegant swags of tiny beads. Much like a Victorian dress offers ruffles and lace, these ornaments feature several ladders up the sides and the gorgeous flowing beads between the ladders. Like the netted Christmas Ornaments, the Victorian Ornament can also be customized with you choice of colors.
So if you are looking to give a very special gift, or treat yourself to a gorgeous addition to your home decor, these ornaments are the perfect solution. If you’d like to see what is currently available feel free to take a look at the ornament department in my online store! One thing is for certain, with a handcrafted beaded ornament, you’re sure to spread smiles and joy!
I’m so excited to share with you this Seed Bead Necklace. It was designed as a very special birthday present for my Mother in Law for her 75th birthday. I wanted to make this piece something unique that should wouldn’t find anywhere else.
The focal bead just spoke to me the moment I saw it. It was a handmade lampwork glass bead from Juls Beads. Across the middle of the bead is an opal iridescent multi-colored foil. Since the October Birthstone is opal, it was the PERFECT start to a very special birthday gift.
Rather than just creating a simple pendant, I wanted to add character. I used copper wire and my round nose pliers to create symmetrical spirals and loops. It really added some energy to the bead and it gave me the perfect display to dangle amethyst Austrian crystals from!
From there, I needed to create the “chain” part of the necklace. I chose a unique blend of amber colored and a mix of purple seed beads to really enhance the opal part of the pendant. It’s just amazing how this color scheme really made the focal stand out.
I wrapped the necklace and matching earrings of course in a beautiful box and couldn’t wait for her to open her gift. After all, you only turn 75 once and we should all share in the celebration, right?
To say my mother-in-law loved it would be an understatement. She ooooo-ed and awwwww-ed and then needed to show everybody at the table just how beautiful her gift was. She then took off her 14K omega necklace and asked me to put on her new necklace. I was tickled she loved it, but even more pleased at how nice she looked wearing it. Mom felt like a princess for her special birthday and I was so pleased to be able to help in that by giving her my handcrafted custom designed jewelry.
When you have a great pendant or focal bead, the best way to showcase it is by creating a beautiful beaded backdrop that has smooth edges or soft, blending colors. Recently I’ve developed a tremendous love for lampwork glass focal beads from a glass artist named Juls Beads. The way she designs and creates just speaks to me. Every focal I purchase from her is one of a kind. She blends colors that I love with textures and glimmer of foils creating beads I truly drool over.
So in working with these lampwork glass focals, I chose to design necklaces and seed bead bracelets that would blend the colors and yet allow the focal bead to be the star of the show! Seed beads come in a HUGE variety of colors, so choosing a color pallet is a true joy. I also like to play with the finish mixing matte finishes with shiny or iridescent finished beads. This creates a bit of texture in the handmade beaded jewelry, but again doesn’t detract from the focal bead.
Another reason working with seed beads is so rewarding is that it is very easy to create necklace and seed bead bracelets to exact sizes. It’s not a matter of following a patterning and hoping it fits well. Rather, because the seed beads are so small, you can add or subtract a fraction of an inch while you are designing to make the piece of jewelry perfect.
There are many different patterns and styles that can be created using seed beads. The necklaces in the photographs are a rope-style chain. There are herringbone styles, spiral snake chains, netting and so many more. If you like the look of seed bead jewelry, and would like a piece created custom just for you, feel free to drop me a line. I love making custom orders when I have a specific person to design for! It means that much more love goes into the handcrafted beaded jewelry.
Semi-Precious Gemstone Jewelry is a great gift alternative that you can give, rather than shopping at the mall jewelry stores. The beauty of giving semi-precious gemstones is that you get more gemstone for the money. And you have a much larger selection in affordable price ranges.
As a designer, I enjoy working with Semi-Precious Gemstones because there are so many options on the market. Someone can give me a color scheme and I can create a one-of-a-kind piece of handmade beaded jewelry that your friend or loved one can wear for years to come. Even more fun, is when someone tells me, “My friend has an August Birthday. Can you create something in her birthstone?”
Indeed I can! Peridot is the official birthstone of August. It’s beautiful light green color is the perfect summer shade. While the peridot jewelry you see in mall jewelry stores starts at $50 and gets much, much more expensive for faceted gemstones. As a jewelry artisan, I utilize peridot nuggets, and peridot chips to create a vibrant pop of color. This gives you more gemstone jewelry for the money.
What other gemstones do you have access too?
The list is endless! Amethyst & garnets are also popular birthstones. But not just birthstones are popular. Turquoise, jade, quart (which comes in a whole host of colors) lapis lazuli, goldstone and so, so many more. When you’re working with semi-precious gemstone beads, you can get a variety of shapes & sizes as well. Therefore whatever you’re looking for and want designed, is absolutely possible when creating semi-precious gemstone jewelry.
If you’re looking to have something special created, use the contact form above to get in touch. I’m happy to help you turn your ideas and desires into a custom designed piece of gemstone jewelry just for you!
